Cate Blanchett plays a celebrated TV journalist who receives a new novel in the mail, one that appears to feature her as the main character—ultimately  disclosing a dark chapter from her past. The seven-episode psychological thriller, written and directed by Academy Award-winner Alfonso Cuarón (Roma, Gravity), brings together an impressive cast: Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, Lesley Manville, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Squid Game star Hoyeon Jung. A mix of high praise and some frustrations have come in from the big critics, but also this intriguing quote from Playlist‘s Rodrigo Perez: “Ultimately, ‘Disclaimer’ finishes strong, Cuarón making a powerful statement—not some anti cancel-culture so much—but about the need for compassion, restraint, and how over-zealous condemnations all make us complicit in a slippery slope culture of spiteful castigation.”  (Read his review.)  The first two episodes stream today.
