Sugarcane

Nominated for an Academy Award, the National Geographic documentary is an investigation into abuse and missing children at an Indian residential school in Canada, which provoked a reckoning at the nearby Sugarcane Reserve. From the New York Time‘s Alissa Wilkinson: “…it’s immersive and incredibly beautiful, shot like poetry and scored by Mali Obomsawin. The result is both stunning and sobering. (Read the review)  The debut feature documentary comes from Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassi.
