A psychological thriller about a young police officer (Mae Martin) who gets drawn into the dark secrets of Tall Pines Academy, a cultish Vermont boarding school for “troubled teens” that’s led by an authoritarian headmaster (Toni Collette).  The six-episode drama was created by and stars Martin, who has a personal connection to the material, and the series dovetails with current investigations into the programs that prey on struggling teens and their parents. It unfolds as an eerie mystery that explores the moral complexities of power and conformity. From TIME’s Judy Berman: “As it touches on hotly debated topics, from trans identity to the troubled teen industry, the show distinguishes itself by contextualizing and complicating them rather than devolving into polemic.” (Read the review)
