The sights and sounds in “Secrets of the Whales” are dazzling throughout, thanks in large part to the epic camerawork by Brian Skerry, who captures the whales with such intimate detail, there are times when it appears as if they’re looking right at us.

The series follows Morris as he crisscrosses the country looking for the inspiring stories of people who started their own businesses.

For the most part, everyone navigates each other’s strange appearance with a good sense of humor while the audience delights in the absolute stupidity of it all.

That’s the real magic trick a show like this has to pull off — creating a universe that feels fresh to newcomers, without alienating them or feeling too confusing. Like so many things in life, the key ingredient turns out to be the people involved. And in the case of both the fictional characters and the cast and crew, the people of Shadow and Bone deliver.

…this isn’t any kind of social-realist drama, and it doesn’t make sense to judge it as such. It’s pulp — very good pulp — and its modest achievement is making heroes out of characters too often reduced to window dressing.

This newest “Space Jam” installment is a good time and boasts real heart. LeBron’s steady work as the lead and a narrative undercurrent built on a believable father-son relationship makes for a breezy 115 minutes and improves on the harmless, yet admittedly stiff original. And while LeBron might not be in the Finals right now, he has definitely scored a win here.
