Strange and ambitious concept? Absolutely. But when it comes to executing what is essentially “X-Men” telepath Professor X trapped in the “Glee” classroom, “Zoey” hits most of the right notes.

7500 is an exhilarating achievement that digs into the utter dread at its core, while reveling in the thrill of sitting through it and hoping that this time, it might yield a happier ending.

This isn’t just a win for representation: A Black Lady Sketch Show is damn hilarious, too, taking insightful swipes at the ridiculousness of modern life, wowing us with big-budget genre parodies and serving up a host of delightful celebrity cameos to boot.

It is a sad, ruthless dramatisation of ruthlessly sad events that asks – especially in later episodes – profound questions about how we want to – and how we should – obtain justice for the murdered and missing.

The evident smallness of the production belies its power to disturb. It’s like one of those knives that are small enough to be hidden in a coat sleeve or the lip of a boot but that can still cut a man’s throat.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll make strange noises doing both at the same time while watching this dark comedy.
