Too Much

An upbeat, all-star rom-com series set in London, Girls creator Lena Dunham is behind this sharply written (and sometimes silly) story about a 30-something New Yorker who takes a job in London after a breakup, only to meet a Mr. Wrong. The team behind it includes two writers from Love Actually and Megan Salter and Will Sharpe play convincing leads. And check out the rest of the cast and guest stars: Kit Harington, Emily Ratajkowski, Rita Wilson, Rhea Perlman, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Fry, Naomi Watts, Jessica Alba, Andrew Scott, and Rita Ora, among others.  All 10 half-hour episodes stream today.

Hulu's new british comedy

Such Brave Girls

%%tb-image-alt-text%%
Such Brave Girls

A distinctly British black comedy about a single mom (Cat Sadler) living in close quarters her two grown daughters after the dad mysteriously skipped town, leaving them to mine their abandonment issues, bad romances, therapy, and some creative new sexuality labels for cringe comedy and lacerating satire. Fans of Fleabag and Peep Show will embrace this one.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (S17)

Even if you’re not a fan of the pitch-dark comedy about the owners and operators of Paddy’s Pub, you’ll likely be hearing about this season — especially if you’re a TV comedy or Bachelor fans.  This season pokes fun at fellow FX show The Bear, sends up Succession, and takes aim at its own wildly long history. But it’s the Always Sunny cross-over stories you will not want to miss — like the one where Frank (Danny DeVito) becomes a contestant on The Golden Bachelor and the gang intersects the world of that other ABC hit — Abbott Elementary.   Two episodes air tonight on FXX at 9pm ET — and on Hulu 7/10.  Six more episodes will be released each Wednesday (FXX) and Thursday (Hulu).

The Shrouds

From the legendary director David Cronenberg, best known for Crash and A History of Violence, this morbid indie follows an entrepreneur (Vincent Cassel) mourning his wife (Diane Kruger) as he runs a new software company that allows the bereaved to witness to the gradual decay of loved ones in their graves — until a rash of grave vandalization that may be the makings of a conspiracy. From The Playlist‘s Rafaela Sales Ross: “What is grief if not a non-linear, mood-spanning, incongruous mess? In this, The Shrouds feels like one of the greatest encapsulations of loss and one we might look at more and more fondly as time goes by.” (Read the review)

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life

A deeper-than-it-looks French-English romantic comedy about a Paris bookseller with literary ambitions who attends a Jane Austen retreat and finds herself dropped into her own modern-day love triangle.  Witty and escapist, it questions how fiction shapes our expectations about love.  From Katie Walsh at the Los Angeles Times: “There’s a salve-like quality to Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, a balm for any battered romantic’s soul. It may be utter fantasy, but it’s the kind of escape you’ll want to revisit again and again, like a favorite Austen novel.” (Read the review)   Now streaming across premium video on demand platforms (Apple, Prime Video, Google, YouTube).
