The Office spin off comedy The Paper

The Paper

%%tb-image-alt-text%%
The Paper

A smart, laugh-out-loud satire from the team behind The Office, Peacock’s much-anticipated fall comedy is an ode to journalism – and to NBC’s mockumentary phenomenon. It stars Domhnall Gleeson as the newly-appointed editor of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a once on-top newspaper struggling to survive with volunteer reporters, “churnalism,” unlikely co-working tenants, and the occasional in-depth local reporting heroics. It walks the line between Office nostalgia and humor (and the return of Oscar Nunez!), but it’s a fresh take that weaves in modern day realities while delivering on the warmth, camaraderie, and, yes, even hope.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf

%%tb-image-alt-text%%
The Terminal List: Dark Wolf

A high-octane, highly realistic spy thriller that raises ethical questions about modern warfare and covert operations, Dark Wolf is the origin story of The Terminal List’s protagonist, Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) that throws us back to his early days joining the CIA.  There are hostage-for-terrorist negotiations in Iraq, black-market arms dealers, paramilitary operations, and secret experimental drug trials — all of which are inspired by real-life events (the show enlisted Navy SEAL advisors), but the series will mostly appeal to viewers looking for a Labor Day Weekend blockbuster for the living room. The three-episode premiere delivers a payoff and sets up your need to return to Prime Video each Wednesday through September 24th.

Caught Stealing

Caught Stealing

An end of summer adrenaline rush and ode to 1990s New York, Austin Butler stars as a baseball prodigy turned bartender with a drinking problem who agrees to catsit for a friend, only to stumble into an underworld of gangsters and big wads of cash. Lighter and more comedic take than you’d expect from director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), Caught Stealing delivers on the grit, nostalgia, and psychological drama along with blurred-in surrealism. It’s also just cool. Zoe Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Bad Bunny round out the cast. Bring a film buff along.

Betty la Fea: The Story Continues

You might remember the American adaptation of it, Ugly Betty. But American Ferrara’s comedy hit was actually based on the most famous Latin American telenovela of all time, Yo Soy Betty, La Fea. After  breaking Prime Video’s Latin American viewership records, Amazon has launched what they’re calling a second season of the Columbian version, Betty la Fea: The Story Continues, with Betty now a fashion-industry CEO whose company is teetering on the brink, right along with her marriage. New romance, a reinvention, a boardroom showdown, and flashbacks to the 1999 classic that make this one a cultural trip back in time and back to the original.
