Dakota Johnson stars as a professional New York matchmaker who finds herself torn between a wealthy suitor (Pedro Pascal) and her struggling actor ex (Chris Evans) in this conversation-driving sociological drama that takes aim at the transactional approach to modern love. Written and directed by breakout filmmaker Celine Song, who was nominated for two Oscars for Past Lives, The Materialists is earning vastly different takes from critics.
