What’s most amazing in The Amazing Spider-Man turns out to be not the shared sensations of blockbuster wow! the picture elicits, but rather the shared satisfactions of intimate awww.

This is better than any of the “Twilights.” It features a functioning creative imagination and lots of honest-to-goodness acting by its star, Jennifer Lawrence.

It’s agony, in a rewarding way, to squirm and cringe and groan through an ordeal so realistically re-created.

Flawed, but endlessly fascinating and enjoyable.

It offers the rare pleasure of an author directing his own book, and doing it well. No one who loves the book will complain about the movie, and especially not about its near-ideal casting.

Some of Jackie’s dialogue is so good it would distinguish a sitcom.
